Name:Joanna Accone
Joanna is a middle-aged faun lady who runs a bookshop in a small town, and comes from a world where minor magics shaped their technological and scientific advancement to a somewhat comparable state to our own - albeit with more elves and centaurs and ghosts than reality.

She's a bookworm, inclined to rambling about the things she knows, quick to cut herself off with an apology, and equally quick to ask after others' wellbeing to change the subject away from herself. An adoptive parent, she separated from her previous partners and had somewhat split guardianship - their shared kid is an adult now, and has been for a few years.

Also, she's a bit of a cultist, having long been involved in a church that's grateful for the threat of apocalypse for ending war as they knew it. After all, there had been a few world wars, and a lot of people died... but one year, nations stopped bothering to go to outright war on each other.

See, an absurdly powerful wizard showed up one year, threatening to destroy the entire world unless 13 people - who had been selected by magical talking animals - convened on a specific island and defeated 12 monsters, in order, before the time was up.

It was ridiculous, laughable, the stuff of comic books - and then the wizard utterly demolished a town with a single swing of a hammer. And then raised all the dead as ghosts, who remembered their lives and continued in a sort of spectral life. The wizard proceeded to shrug off bullets, tanks, and nukes, and prove generally impossible to defeat.

But, when the 12 monsters were defeated (and the knights largely dead), the wizard disappeared... For a year. They reappeared the next year, for the same threat. And the next. And the next.

It's been a few decades, and while war never quite continued in the same way, commercialism sure did; these days, the selected knights are always swept into sponsorship by major companies before being sent on their way to the island in comfort, and the survivors retain a certain fame / notoriety after their victory. Joanna, to her surprise, would be selected by the Goat to be one of the 12 knights. That story is just beginning.
